Colombario del Fusaro and Casina Vanvitelliana
How about a new guided tour?
At sunset, to the discovery of the enchanting beauties of Fusaro: the Casina Vanvitelliana and the columbarium (Colombario), an ancient Roman necropolis recently restored and returned to public use. The Columbarium, from the Roman era, located at the crossroads between Viale Vanvitelli and Via Virgilio, displays inhumation and cremation burials, dating from the 1st century BC to the first half of the 3rd century AD.
The discovery of the necropolis took place in 1840, by the hand of the Royal Architect Carlo Bonucci, who was so enthusiastic about it that he wrote to Re Ferdinando II of Bourbon about the discovery in a letter, dated April 16, 1841.
Finally, this gem of the past is once again open to visitors, thanks to the commitment of the numerous local entities involved in the restoration and cleaning of the rooms.
